Thyroid Function Tests:

Thyroid health is commonly assessed using the following blood tests:

1. TSH (Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone): This is the most commonly ordered test for thyroid function. A high TSH level typically indicates hypothyroidism, while a low TSH level suggests hyperthyroidism.
2. T4 (Thyroxine): Measures the level of thyroid hormone in the blood. This test helps assess thyroid function, especially when TSH levels are abnormal.
3. T3 (Triiodothyronine): Measures the active form of thyroid hormone. It is less commonly used but can help diagnose certain types of hyperthyroidism.
4. Thyroid Antibodies: In autoimmune thyroid diseases like Hashimoto’s or Graves’ disease, the body produces antibodies that can attack the thyroid gland. Tests for antibodies (such as anti-TPO or anti-TG antibodies) are used to diagnose these conditions.
